Organic Gardening Course

Starting Tuesday March 26th, April 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th.

From 4.30pm to 6pm.

Learn how to grow organic vegetables at home in both small and larger spaces. This course will teach you the basics, how to create optimal soil conditions, how to sow seeds and how to nurture and protect your plants. By the end of the course you will be able to grow and eat your own organic vegetables at home.

About the Teacher:
Wendy Nairn is one of the founders of the organic movement in Ireland and has over 30 years experience in this area. Wendy is passionate about producing fresh, nutritious vegetables using sustainable wildlife friendly methods.
 
About the Course:
This is a six week course run once a week for an hour and a half. Each class will start in the classroom for some teaching before going outside for some practical work. The course schedule and time outside may be altered depending on the weather. To maximise participation, spaces are limited to 12 in the class.
 
Week 1: Seed sowing.
Learn how to sow seeds and grow vegetables in small spaces.
 
Week 2: Soil & Composting
How to make compost in the home garden, worm compost and the different soil types that influence how plants grow
 
Week 3: Organic Gardening Techniques Part 1
Week 4: Organic Gardening Techniques Part2
Discover the different techniques used for organic gardening and identify which will suit your own circumstances.
 
Week 5: Biodiversity, pests and diseases
How to identify and encourage the beneficial creatures in the garden and deal with pests and diseases
 
Week 6: Herbs & Propagation
How to grow herbs and propagate both inside and outside the home.
