Organic Farm
We are proud to be a leader in
the Irish organic farming
movement, with decades
of experience in conservation
and biodiversity enhancement.
Soil Health
The broad sloping fields and native hedgerows of our small-scale organic farm are visible for miles around and even from the sea!
Originally constructed in 1916, our farmyard is a reminder of the long agricultural traditions that have shaped Wicklow Town. In the late 1990s, Dominican nuns decided to rejuvenate the farm that had fallen into disuse. Our organic project now includes the wintering and birthing of free range animals, fodder storage and seed sowing and propagation: our wonderful crops of organic fruit and vegetables are sold in our Organic Farm Shop and served, farm-to-fork, at our retreats.
Our approach to sustainable farming, healthy and locally produced food, ethical shopping, community employment, natural heritage and education links back always to the ancient idea of ‘An Tairseach’ - the threshold.
The threshold reminds us, in response to the looming environmental breakdown, that we are ‘between two stories’.
We have always wanted to understand the natural world more deeply as a means to study humanity. An Tairseach's Organic Farm was created as an exercise in tending to the skin surface of the Earth; to work towards a new and transformative purpose in us and the everyday environmental challenges that we face.
Natural Farming
Natural Farming
With focus on biodiversity and animal welfare
Our 70-acre organic farm provides for our cattle and pigs, tillage fields, our native species woodland plantations and historic gardens. We have an array of habitats and species which, season to season, allow our work to be abundant and sustainable. An Tairseach farm acquired organic status in 2006.

The closer we can get to the natural world, the sooner we start to realise we are not separate.
Biodiverse Habitats
Biodiverse Habitats
We have developed our land and journeyed with it, from the days of its conversion from its previous use as a typical intensive farm, to its status today as an innovative leader in the Irish organic movement. An Tairseach is an invitation to everyone to respond as positively as they can to the environmental crisis, to try to live out a deeper grasp of their position in the web of life, a deeper connection to our planetary home and all the other lifeforms that share it.
