The Gardened Soul: Feasting & Fasting

With Rev. David White

This two-day retreat is a contemplative exploration on how we engage with the food we grow and eat.

How connected are we to the cycle of growth and compost?

How do we engage with limit? When is enough truly enough?

What is the true meaning of nourishment?

How do we say no to excessive consumption and yet stay open to More…?

Throughout this retreat we’ll engage together through discussion and group work, silence and prayer. We will draw from many wells including literature, theology, mythology and spirituality. We’ll explore themes on feasting and fasting and how we might engage these age-old practices for the benefit of all in our present day.

At An Tairseach you’ll have time to unwind, rest and reflect in an oasis of beauty in the heart of Wicklow town. Spend time in the garden and watch your food being grown and harvested, enjoy the abundance of early summer flowers, sit and take in the sea views or take a walk along the waterfront. You’ll be well fed and nourished by our fresh organic produce that will help you leave feeling restored, nourished and satiated.

Price includes all talks, tea/coffee, all meals catered (day 1: lunch & dinner) (day 2: breakfast & lunch) and accommodation for the overnight stay.

Rev. David White

David began his love affair with gardening when he sowed apple pips in a yogurt pot on his warm windowsill at home as a young child. Later as an adult he trained and worked at the National Botanic Gardens, Dublin where he was introduced to the complex and intriguing world of plants and their ecologies. Now as a spiritual director and Church of Ireland priest based in Dublin’s Rathgar he has written a book, ‘The Gardened Soul: The Emotional Connection to More’ (The Gardened Soul- Wipf and Stock Publishers) to put a shape on some of his contemplation in the garden.
