ABOUT THIS COURSE

Back by popular demand, come join us at the An Tairseach Organic Farm & Ecology Centre as we explore the food we eat, growing it ourselves and eating it all year round in light of climate change and the biodiversity crisis.

As part of a series of Plot to Pot courses, we focus on the growing year. We will guide you through what to expect in your garden this month and what to plan for the months ahead. The Plot to Pot series is designed to build on your knowledge from one event to the next so if you joined us for this event last year, the course material in this event will be different and will build on the skills you have already learned.

Topics covered will include information on organic vegetable growing, how to prepare the ground for planting, seed buying and seed starting, planning for the calendar year and planning for preserving food later in the season.

The day will start with a presentation by Moira Byrne. Tea & coffee will be served before heading out into our gardens for a practical demonstration.

A delicious lunch will served incorporating organic vegetables and produce from our organic farm.

The afternoon session will focus on how to preserve produce grown in your garden, covering the “forgotten skills” of preserving. This will include both a classroom presentation and practical demonstration. You will also get a chance to taste some products.

There will be ample time throughout the day to ask questions and explore topics you need specific guidance on.

ABOUT MOIRA BYRNE

Moira worked as Environmental Awareness Officer with Wicklow County Council for over 20 years. She has a background in medical and environmental sciences, geography and environmental management …as well as growing her own food all her life. Moira worked locally with all sectors of the community; students of all ages, business and volunteer sectors too, both locally and nationally. She is currently a member of the Board of Directors and is passionate about the mission of An Tairseach.

Moira believes that we can all live sustainability through trying to live differently. Growing your own food is a tangible means of understanding the food we eat and climate adaptation and mitigation. It also provides a route to get in touch with nature and enhance general environmental awareness. Your garden becomes a supermarket from which you get most of your food for the week along with preserving for year-long use.

BOOKING ESSENTIAL. Payments can be made online when registering, by direct deposit or credit card – telephone 0404 61833.
